Thursday, December 8, 2016

Dear Parents,

Our next field trip is Thursday, December 22. We will be driving to West High Pool for some water fun. Chaperones, I need a copy of your current valid driver’s license, a copy of your current vehicle registration, and a copy of your proof of insurance with the minimum $100,000/$300,000 bodily injury and $25,000 property damage included on the copy by tomorrow. I appreciate your cooperation with this new district policy. If you haven’t turned in the copies you can bring all your information to the office and they will make copies for you. Thanks! Chaperones please meet in Room 177 by 12:15. We will leave the school at 12:30 and return by 2:45. If your child requires or you prefer your child to use a booster seat and you are not driving, please send in your child’s booster seat on Thursday morning. Your child also needs to bring his or her own swimsuit, towel, goggles (optional), and plastic bag (for the wet swimsuit). Don’t worry if your child is not a swimmer. Students will all be given a life jacket, unless they choose to take the swimming test. We have use of the slide and most of the students stay together in the shallow end any way and have a good time together. I want everyone to have a good time and not to worry if you can’t swim. It will still be a lot of fun. I will be getting in the water this year for the first time in many years. I am not a great swimmer and I will be bringing my life vest as well and maybe my duck floaty and water wings. Let’s have fun swimming!
Denali Holiday Night is Friday, December 16 at 7:00 p.m. If you can bring cookies for the event, it would be much appreciated. I hope you can join us for a night of music, food, holiday stories and more!
As a team this holiday season, the primary wing is going to do a community service project that focuses on giving back to the community.  Students will be putting together Blessing Bags for the homeless that will include items such as toothbrushes, soap, hand warmers, socks, hats and gloves.  Our class is responsible for providing 200 travel- sized toothpastes. If you would like to contribute to this project, please send them in by next Friday, December 16.  We are trying to make about 200 bags to donate.  Students will be stuffing the bags on the afternoon of December 16th. Thank you for your support.
I have decided that there will be no homework for the remainder of the year. We will resume homework in January when we return from the break. You can still take time to read every night, relax and enjoy some family time.
The students have had a great week working on apostrophes for contractions, spelling, math operations, problem solving, math facts, reading comprehension, penmanship, reading, writing letters, pronouns, learning about momentum and problem solving with Hot Wheels cars and racetracks, and more.
If you have any questions or concerns, please e-mail me at moyer_craig@asdk12.org or call or write me a note.

Sincerely,

Craig Moyer
