Dear Parents,

As many of you know I was out for about a week to take care of one of my daughters. I appreciate all the well wishes for her health and I am very happy to report that she is doing much better. I am also happy to report that the students did a great job for the visiting teachers and received lots of compliments from specialists and Mrs. R. as well. I’m very proud of them and appreciate their excellent behavior.

1) Book Fair Survey:  The PTSA would like your feedback on the book fair. A survey is available athttps://www.surveymonkey.com/r/P2SPWBY.  Thank you for everybody who supported the book fair. Several hundred dollars of books were purchased for the classrooms, and we earned $750, which will be used to purchase Montessori classroom supplies.

2) PTSA needs help in developing a Fundraising Strategy.  Currently just a few people have taken on lead roles in our fundraisers (which are often community events like the Fall Carnival). We need help. We need your ideas and we need volunteers to help make these events happen. Can you do either? Please sign-up at http://signup.com/go/kWxDQE

3) PTSA is also seeking some Volunteer Coordinators and also classroom representatives.  If you are interested, you can sign up for that too at
http://signup.com/go/kWxDQE.  These roles require mostly emails and maybe some phone calls -- help us improve our communications.

4) Remember the Denali Holiday Bazaar and Chalk the Walks to Celebrate Peace and Diversity for Cultural Heritage Month this Saturday. (Bazaar 11-4; Chalk the Walks 12-2).  The bazaar will help support the school's field trip scholarship fund.
I am sending home permission slips in today’s folder for our next field trip. We will be walking to the Performing Arts Center on Thursday, December 1 for Alaska Junior Theater’s, “360 All Stars” We will leave the school at 9:30 and return at about 11:45. It should be a fun event.
I have sent homework in today’s folder that will be due on Friday, December 2. We will not have homework during Thanksgiving week, but I will not be sending a folder home next week so you have lots of extra time to practice those words and read some good books.
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. It is a time for us to gather with friends and family and reflect on the many things we are thankful for. I am thankful for my wonderful family, colleagues that I work with, and Mrs. R. I am very thankful for your support at home with your children, all the volunteers that help listen to students read, make copies, are able to join us on field trips, and everything else that makes my job so enjoyable. I am thankful for such a great group of students who care about each other, work well together, and are not afraid to make mistakes and learn from them. I hope you all have a very happy and healthy Thanksgiving holiday.
If you have any questions or concerns, please e-mail me at moyer_craig@asdk12.org or call or write me a note. Thanks.

Sincerely,

Craig Moyer

Dear Parents,

Our next scheduled field trip is Tuesday, November 8. We will walk to the Apple Store in the 5th Avenue Mall to turn our stories into narrated movies. We will leave school at about 10:00 and return at about noon I only have 9 permission slips returned as of today and only one chaperone. Please return the permission slips by tomorrow. I need at least four chaperones and myself for any trip we take. I appreciate the gift of your time so we can attend these wonderful learning experiences. Chaperones please meet in Room 177 by 9:45.
Winter has finally arrived in Anchorage and with it comes all the winter gear. Please remember to label your child’s boots, hats, gloves, snow pants, and other gear. It will make it a lot easier to sort out whose is whose. If you haven’t had time to get your child’s snow gear, please get it soon. We want your children to enjoy outdoor recess as comfortably as possible. If some of you have gently used gloves, hats, boots, coats, or snow pants that you don’t want any more, please consider donating them to nurse Pattie. We have several families in need of snow gear for their kids.
The students have had a great week working on synonyms, vocabulary, geometry, spelling, math operations, articles, creative writing, reading, writing letters, science experiments, informative writing, and more. This class is really impressive in their work habits, how they work with each other, and their love for learning. I am having a great time working with your kids. Thank you for all your hard work you do at home with them.
If you have any questions or concerns, please e-mail me at moyer_craig@asdk12.org or call or write me a note.

Sincerely,
