Dear Parents,

Our first field trip is tomorrow Friday, September 1. We will be walking to the Apple Store in the 5th Avenue Mall to participate in a discovery and experimentation project called, “Going the Distance with Paper Airplanes”. Chaperones, please meet in Room 177 by 9:15. We will leave the school at about 9:30 and should return about noon. Thank you to all the chaperones that could make this trip possible.
Our second field trip of the year will be on Wednesday, September 13. We will be taking a bus to Pyrah’s Farm in Palmer. This is a great trip that the entire primary wing is attending. We will leave the school at 9:20 a.m. and should return at about 2:00 p.m. I have sent home permission slips in today’s folder. Please return them as soon as possible. Thank you to Ms. Homan, one of our wonderful primary teachers, for making this trip possible!
Please mark your calendars for Thursday, September 14 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. This is your chance to visit the classroom and find out more about the Montessori program at the Denali Open House. I look forward to seeing you then.
I have included your child’s spelling and reading homework in today’s folder. The students took a placement test so I could place them at their correct level at this time. This level may change throughout the year depending on the student’s needs. This spelling work is due on Friday, September 8 and the students will be tested on that day as well.
Thank you to Holden’s Mom, who has graciously given her time to fill our Thursday folders each week. I appreciate it!
If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at moyer_craig@asdk12.org or call or write me a note.

Sincerely,

Dear Parents,

The second and third graders have done a great job making the first graders feel welcome and modeling proper work habits. The first graders are working hard to learn the new routines and new work. It’s been a super first couple of days and I’m having lots of fun working with your children.
This week we have been working on learning the routines, reviewing math operations, writing, practicing our handwriting, studying the noun, reading, and getting to know each other. As part of Maria Montessori’s first Great Lesson, we have also been reading Creation Stories from around the world.  Next week we will learn about the scientific story of how the universe began. The students have enjoyed listening and acting out the various stories and will be writing their own.
Our first field trip is on Friday, September 1. We will be walking to the Apple Store in the 5th Avenue Mall to participate in a discovery and experimentation project called, “Going the Distance with Paper Airplanes”. This should be a fun learning experience that is free for our students. I have sent home a double-sided permission slip that needs to be returned as soon as possible.
I am also excited to announce our second field trip of the year on Wednesday, September 13. We will be taking a bus to Pyrah’s Farm in Palmer. This is a great trip that the entire primary wing is attending. We will leave the school at 9:20 a.m. and should return at about 2:00 p.m. I will send home permission slips in next week’s folder. If you have a spare hour or so that you would like to spend organizing and filling our Thursday folders each week with homework, newsletters, and school work, please let me know as soon as possible. I would really appreciate the help. Thanks!
