Dear Parents,
I have enjoyed meeting with you all to discuss your child’s progress this quarter and set goals for the next quarter. I will meet with each student as well to have him or her set goals for themselves as well. I have also sent home your child’s report card in today’s folder. You can also view it on the Zangle Parent Connect site as well. Please take time to go over the report card with your child and celebrate their accomplishments and set goals for improvement. With all of us working together it should be a great year!
Our next scheduled field trip will be on Thursday, November 3. We will be walking to the Performing Arts Center to see Junior Theater’s, “The Lightning Thief” We will leave the school at about 9:35 and return at about 11:45. We look forward to this fun event!
The Denali Fall Carnival is tomorrow Friday, October 28 from 6:30-8:30. Please join us for music, games, and a lot of fun. If you are able to donate a cake for the cakewalk, it will be greatly appreciated.
I have sent permission slips for our trip to the Apple Store in the 5th Avenue Mall in today’s folder. We will be bringing our stories and poems to life on Tuesday, November 8. We will leave the school at about 9:40 and return at about noon. This should be a great learning experience!
Homework has returned! I have put in the homework in today’s folder that will be tested and due on Friday, November 4. It will be nice to get back to our regular full week routine.

Dear Parents,

One of my favorite times of the year is fast approaching! Conferences will be held Wednesday, October 26 and Thursday, October 27 from 12:45 p.m.-4:00 p.m. I will also be offering conferences on Monday, October 24and Tuesday, October 25 from 7:00 a.m.-8:30 a.m. Students will be released at 12:30 p.m. on October 26 and 27 and there is no school on Friday, October 28. Parents now have the ability to schedule conference times online. The Conference Scheduler is available starting tomorrow. Scheduling early offers you the opportunity to secure conference times that work best for your family. Please visit the online scheduler at: www.asdk12.org/parents. You will need to find my name and go to mix and you will find my schedule. If you are not able to use the online system please call or email. I look forward to meeting with you all and celebrating your child’s progress.
I am also excited about our upcoming scheduled field trips! On Thursday, November 3 we will be walking to the Performing Arts Center to see Alaska Junior Theater’s musical of “The Lightning Thief” from 9:30-noon. On Tuesday, November 8 we will be walking to the Apple Store to make an i-movie. We will be leave about 10:00 and return at about noon. Finally, on Thursday, December 1 we will return to the Performing Arts Center to see Alaska Junior Theaters “360 All Stars”. We will leave at 9:30 and return about noon. I have sent home the permission slip for “The Lightning Thief “ in today’s folder. As you will notice on the form there is a section that asks if you would like to provide a scholarship. Here at Denali Montessori, all students are invited on field trips whether they can afford it or not. I believe that field trips are an important part of a child’s education. Last year at the primary level we were short over $400 in field trip money. In the past, teachers made up this difference. Now that the district requires our wonderful administrative assistant, Ms. Woods, handle all monies, the burden of short funds falls on our PTSA. We will be selling popcorn after school and other fundraisers throughout the year to provide for these scholarships, but your donations will also go to fund Denali Montessori students going on these fabulous learning opportunities. Thank you for your support!
The Denali Fall Carnival is on Friday, October 28 from 6:30-8:30. The choir will sing from 6:30-7:00 and then the carnival will begin. Please join us for music, games, and a lot of fun. If you are able to donate a cake for the cakewalk, it will be greatly appreciated.
If you have not done so, you can access all future newsletters and pictures at http://denalimontessori177.blogspot.com/. If you type in your email in the box on the right hand corner, you will automatically receive an email when I have added anything. Thank you again to Mr. Horning for putting this together for me!
This week has been an incredible week of learning adjectives, fractions, money, writing “Who am I?” stories, reading, spelling, math operations and facts, compound words, the three states of matter experiment in science, 3 dimensional shapes in geometry, and more. I’m exhausted just thinking about it.
Students will be released at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26 and Thursday, October 27 for Parent/Teacher Conferences. There is no school on Friday, October 28 for the Montessori In-Service training.
The students were very upset that there is no homework during conference week, so I promise to double it the following week.
If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at moyer_craig@asdk12.org or call or write me a note.

Sincerely,

Craig Moyer

While we are on the topic of field trips, I wanted to let you know about the responsibilities of the students on our outings. Each child has been told this before we go on each trip, but I wanted you to know my policy as well. Each child is responsible to follow the instructions of the chaperones and teacher on every field trip. It is my responsibility to keep the students safe. We walk, take buses, or drive to all our field trips and it is vital that they are being safe in all those situations. It is also the responsibility of the child, to be respectful and kind on the field trip. When we go out in the public, we are representing Denali Montessori, Room 177, you, and myself.  We need to show that Denali Montessori students are respectful and kind at all times on field trips. If the student isn’t being safe or listening to the adults and being safe or is not showing respect and kindness, the student will be required to have his or her parent attend the next field trip. If the parent can’t attend, the child will have to stay in a classroom at Denali while we are on the trip. I don’t expect any of this to happen, but if it does these are the consequences. During our first field trip of the year to the museum, the students were all safe and were all very well behaved and that is what I expect.
The Denali Fall Carnival is on Friday, October 28 from 7:00-8:30. Please join us for music, games, and a lot of fun. If you are able to donate a cake for the cakewalk, it will be greatly appreciated.
