Dear Parents,
Thank you to all the students that
did a wonderful job while I was on my extended Spring Break. I had intended to
return to school on Wednesday, March 22 but as fate would have it our flight
from Lihue to Honolulu was canceled so we missed our flight from Honolulu to
Anchorage and couldn’t return until Friday, March 24. (I know, what a place to
be stranded in.) I appreciate how well the students worked for the visiting
teachers and behaved. It’s not easy to be out and it makes it so much easier
knowing the students know what to do when I’m gone. Thank you!
The 3rd graders are
taking the PEAKS test this week and next Monday and will start promptly at 9:30
each day. 3rd grade parents please send your child well rested, well
fed, and relaxed and ready to do his or her best. We won’t have spelling tests
or homework this week due to the 3rd grade testing. I have sent next
week’s homework in today’s folder.
Here is a list of our scheduled
field trips at this time. On Thursday, April 20 we will be walking to The
Performing Arts Center to see Alaska Junior Theater’s “The Tree and the Donkey
Who Could Sing” from 9:30-11:45.
Chaperones please meet in Room 177 by 9:00. Friday, April 28 we will
walk to the Pioneer School House for a tour from 12:30-3:00. Friday, May 5 we
will need drivers to take us to Bartlett High School for orienteering from
11:30-1:30. The last day of school, Wednesday, May 24 we will have our annual
Primary Wing Barbecue at Valley of the Moon Park from 10:00-2:30. This will be
a walking field trip. Put these dates on your calendar and we would love to
have you join us if possible. I have sent home the first permission slip in
today’s folder.
One more important event is our 3rd
Grade Recognition Ceremony in which we send our 3rd graders with a
big thank you and good luck in the future. I have scheduled this event for
Friday, May 12 at 1:00. 3rd grade parents please let me know if this
date and time does not work for you as soon as possible.
I have sent third quarter report
cards home in today’s folder. Please take a few moments to talk with your child
to celebrate his or her accomplishments and discuss some areas he or she needs
to improve. Teaching your children how to set goals is an important tool and
gift that you can give them.
The students have settled back into
a nice work cycle this week. We have been studying capitalization, word
analysis, numbers and operations, math operations and facts, grammar, writing,
spelling, writing friendly letters, animal and continent research, and more.
It’s been a great week!
If you have
any questions or concerns, please e-mail me at moyer_craig@asdk12.org or call or
write me a note.
Sincerely,
Craig Moyer
