Dear Parents,
The
children are raising money for our sister school in Malawi, Africa. This
is the Malawi Children’s Village. It is a place for children who were
orphaned in Africa. We have added to the building of a school, latrines
so the girls could go to school, books, chairs, and paper. This year we
are raising money to build teacher housing on campus. If you would like
to donate (certainly not required) please send donations in an envelope marked
MCV.
Thursday, April 13 is the Denali
Peace Concert. Please join us from 6:30-8:00 for music, a cake auction,
information about our sister school in Malawi, and more. It should be a great
evening for a great cause.
Here is a list of our scheduled
field trips at this time. On Thursday, April 20 we will be walking to The
Performing Arts Center to see Alaska Junior Theater’s “The Tree and the Donkey
Who Could Sing” from 9:30-11:45.
Chaperones please meet in Room 177 by 9:00. Friday, April 28 we will
walk to the Pioneer School House for a tour from 12:30-3:00. Friday, May 5 we
will need drivers to take us to Bartlett High School for orienteering from
11:30-1:30. Tuesday, May 23 we will be taking a bus to the Eagle River Nature
Center to take a hike and have a picnic lunch on the river in what should be
about perfect weather at 75 degrees and sunny. ( I’m optimistic) The last day
of school, Wednesday, May 24 we will have our annual Primary Wing Barbecue at
Valley of the Moon Park from 10:00-2:30. This will be a walking field trip. Put
these dates on your calendar and we would love to have you join us if possible.
I have sent home the permission slip for the Junior Theater trip in last week’s
folder and the permission slip for the Pioneer School House in today’s folder.
One more important event is our 3rd
Grade Recognition Ceremony in which we send our 3rd graders with a
big thank you and good luck in the future. I have had a request to have this
event scheduled for Friday, May 12 at 11:15. 3rd grade parents
please let me know if this date and time does not work for you as soon as
possible.
The students have settled back into
a nice work cycle this week. We have been studying numbers and operations, math
operations and facts, grammar, writing, spelling, writing friendly letters,
predators and prey, dissecting an owl pellet to examine its prey, animal and
continent research, and more. It’s been a great week!
If you have
any questions or concerns, please e-mail me at moyer_craig@asdk12.org or call or
write me a note.
Sincerely,
Craig Moyer
