Dear Parents,

I forgot to send the school district’s new swimming pool/swimming activity waiver and consent form with the original Kids Don’t Float permission slip. Every child needs one signed or they cannot participate in the activity. I sent a copy home on Tuesday and had some returned and I have sent some home in today’s folder as well. Please return these as soon as possible. Thanks. 

Our next field trip is Wednesday, May 17 we will have drivers to take us to West High Pool for the Kids Don’t Float pool session. We will leave the school at 12:30 and return at 2:30. Chaperones please meet in Room 177 by 12:15. Our wonderful P.E. teachers Mr. Horning and Ms. McEvoy have planned Field Day for Monday, May 22. Our time is from 1:15-3:15. There is a sign-up sheet in today’s folder if you can help out with this fantastic event. Tuesday, May 23 we will be taking a bus to the Eagle River Nature Center to take a hike and have a picnic lunch on the river in what should be about perfect weather at 75 degrees and sunny. (I’m optimistic) The last day of school, Wednesday, May 24 we will have our annual Primary Wing Barbecue at Valley of the Moon Park from 10:00-2:30. This will be a walking field trip. Put these dates on your calendar and we would love to have you join us if possible. I have sent home permission slips for all of our remaining trips. If you are receiving another one, it means it has not been returned. Please get those in as soon as possible. I appreciate your gift of time to make all these trips possible.

Tomorrow is our 3^rd Grade Recognition Ceremony in which we send our 3^rdgraders with a big thank you and good luck in the future. The 3^rd graders have been working hard on their speeches and it should be a lovely ceremony. We will start at 11:15 a.m. Thanks.

After school on Wednesday, May 24 we will say our good-byes at the Denali Montessori Ice Cream Social. Please join us in celebrating a wonderful school year.

I’d like to wish all the moms a very happy and peaceful Mother’s Day. Thank you for all your hard work, support, and sacrifice that you make on your child’s behalf.

Tomorrow Friday, May 5 we will be driving to Bartlett High School for orienteering from 11:15-1:30. Chaperones please meet in Room 177 by 11:00. We will leave at about 11:15. Wednesday, May 10 we will once again need drivers to take us to the Alaska Native Heritage Center for Preview Day. We will leave the school at 9:30 and return at about 1:30. The students have been studying algebra, math operations and facts, grammar, persuasive writing, information and study skills, writing friendly and thank you letters, map reading skills, animal and continent research, the life cycle of a butterfly (Our caterpillars are in the chrysalis stage!) and more. It’s been a great week!

Dear Parents,

            It’s hard to believe that there are less than twenty days of school left in the year. The students have had a great time showing several kindergarten students around the room this week in order to give them a glance at what goes on in a primary classroom. It has been fun to observe and listen to what they tell them. Your children have been such wonderful role models and guides in this process this week and it has been a lot of fun for me.

Here is a list of our remaining field trips for the year. This Friday, April 28 we will walk to the Pioneer School House for a tour from 12:30-3:00. Chaperones please meet in Room 177 by 12:15 and we will leave at 12:30. On Wednesday, May 3 we will walk to the Performing Arts Center to see the Asian Cultural Performance. We will leave the school at 9:15 and should return at about 11:45. I have also sent home permission slips to individual students who have not returned the ones previously sent. Please return these permission slips as soon as possible. I will not make phone calls to get permission for any of the field trips. I will send up to 3 permission slips home with a child. It is the child and parents’ responsibility to return them. We have enough chaperones for the Pioneer School House on the 28^th. We are rather short on drivers for our orienteering trip on Friday, May 5. I have enough drivers to carry 19 students at this time. I have sent home permission slips for our final three field trips in today’s folder. I appreciate your gift of time to make all these trips possible.

It’s been a great week!

The students are really having a tough time with the fact that there will be no more homework sent home the remainder of the year. I encourage students to continue reading and practice math facts, but there will not be any more spelling. Thanks.
